I have been a fan of Linux since 2002, but it has always taken the backseat in my computer. I usually have Windows installed as the primary OS with Linux occupying a small slice of my hard disk or configured as a virtual machine.
Well, not anymore. I made the big switch to Ubuntu 8.04 LTS also known as Hardy Heron. Here are my reasons for choosing to be a full-time Linux convert:
- It's free and there's absolutely no cost to use. To some gifted people, it's even free to modify (as in participate in Linux development).
- Choice - XP will be retired soon and I don't want to get locked in with Vista as my only upgrade option.
- Features and functionality. Linux is ready for mainstream computing. Most distributions support productivity tools, Internet browsing, photos, music, video and even Office applications out-of-the-box. Hardware support has significantly improved.
Most of my posts will feature Ubuntu as it's the distribution I've got installed. I will also be posting blogs on other distributions like Fedora and openSUSE depending on the subject that I intend to cover.
