Running on Hardy Heron

I have been a fan of Linux since 2002, but it has always taken the backseat in my computer. I usually have Windows installed as the primary OS with Linux occupying a small slice of my hard disk or configured as a virtual machine.

Well, not anymore. I made the big switch to Ubuntu 8.04 LTS also known as Hardy Heron. Here are my reasons for choosing to be a full-time Linux convert:

  1. It's free and there's absolutely no cost to use. To some gifted people, it's even free to modify (as in participate in Linux development).
  2. Choice - XP will be retired soon and I don't want to get locked in with Vista as my only upgrade option.
  3. Features and functionality. Linux is ready for mainstream computing. Most distributions support productivity tools, Internet browsing, photos, music, video and even Office applications out-of-the-box. Hardware support has significantly improved.
This blog is inspired by people who want to make the Linux switch. I will be sharing my Linux experience to help people relate and hopefully help solve problems.

Most of my posts will feature Ubuntu as it's the distribution I've got installed. I will also be posting blogs on other distributions like Fedora and openSUSE depending on the subject that I intend to cover.
